Washington, D.C. Identity Theft
In Washington, DC, identity theft refers to the use of another person’s identifying information in order to obtain property or services without that person’s consent. The statute itself is District of Columbia Code § 22-3227. As with many states, District of Columbia law not only addresses the use of someone else’s personal information to commit a crime or fraud, but also trafficking (e.g., buying and selling) such information.
